Backup exec 2010 R3 sql database to alternate location

Hi,

I need to restore MSSQL db file to alternate location. Not to MSSQL instance, there should I look?

Destination / Microsoft SQL Redirection / Destination Options?

You will have to restore the SQL DB to another instance of SQL.  The options for this are under Microsoft SQL Redirection.

Do you meen that I can not restore sql DB just to simple file ?

That is correct.  Backup Exec doesn't actually backup the DB files for a database during the backup, it dumps the contents of the database to the backup container, as per the Microsoft guide lines using SQLVDI for backups.  So because of this we can't just restore the files.

The restore has to go to another SQL instance or the same instance but a different database name.  During the restore it will create new DB files on the target server and the data will be dumped back into that.
