Backup exec not registering updated firmware

TJMurphy

Hello,  I use an IBM TS3100 connected to a 2008 virtualized server and im not seeing the drive in backup exec showing the newly updated firmware.  We are having issues where  the drive in backup exec is always showing as in use with tapes unloading temporarily.  i was told firmware could be the issue and have since updated the drive and library to the most recent distribution.  My only problem is that backup exec is still showing it as the old version even after removing it and re-adding it.  Any suggestions?

Symantec does not recommend the use of a VM as a media server.  See this document, especially the part about this being an alternative configuration.

Furthermore, if you are using ESX 5.x, pass-thru to tape drives are no longer supported by VMware.  See this document

VMware KB: Configuring vendor-supported tape drives and media changers on ESX/ESXi 4.x and later

Also, I am not sure whether BE 10.x support Server 2008.

Hello, Is the firmware upgraded in Windows device manager?  If it shows there correctly try running a database repair.  see: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH67239

Backup Exec 10d is a old unsupported version.  I recommend upgrading to Backup Exec 2010 R3.
