Bar Codes and labels

I am new to bar codes and I got everything working okay, however it appears that i need another label on the LTO2 tapes so I can identify the tapes with other than the bar code. I have an exabyte LTO2 1x7 autoloader. Maybe i am not understanding how the bar codes are to be used. Maybe I don't need to use bar codes. Can someone explain what they are used for and how. I called exabyte to see if I could put another label on the tape as an identifier and they indicated that there is only one spot for the label and that is where the bar code is.

Hello,

If your cartridge is in a robotic library that has a bar code reader, then the bar code label automatically becomes the media label. If you want to label the media using backup exec, then you will have to remove the physical bar code label from the media cartridge. In order to enable a bar code label for the device, refer to the following technote:

Title: How to enable a bar code label rule and configure it for the tape device
http://support.veritas.com/docs/259444

Also refer to the following pages: 206-210 in the Administrator's manual for Backup Exec version 10.0. You can download the manual at the following link:

Title: VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 10.0 for Windows Servers Administrator's Guide (English)

Hope this information helps. In case of further doubts, do write back to the forum. However if we do not receive your update within two business days, this post would be marked ‘assumed answered’ and would be moved to ‘answered questions’ pool.
