Can a running Backup Exec job cause a "locked for editing by another user" message?

Hi,

One of my users was getting random messages of "locked for editing by another user" when she tried to open Office documents on the server share.

This happend randomly. When she tried again later it would be OK. Then it might happen again with another file. We're pretty sure no one else would have opened those files.

I checked that a Backup Exec backup job was running at the time. It is possibe that the backup job just happened to have locked the files at the time?

VSS is used in the backup job.

-Windows Server 2008 R2

-Windows 7

-Backup Exec 2010 R3

Thanks!

Nopes, this shouldn't be the case when the backup is running. Upon a quick search, found this forum discussion. May help you - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/5c9f7444-a2c7-4598-beca-21a6d5575d94/excel-file-currently-in-use?forum=officesetupdeploylegacy
