Can't backup local drives of backup server

Hello,

It seems like i cant backup the local drives of the server where i have Veritas Backup Exec V10.0 Rev. 5484 installed!
When ever i make a selection with one of the local drives within it i get strange errors!
I've got 3 drives, seems to me it isnt an issue with the drive itself since there are 3.

If i select all 3 of them i get a strange error like:

Backup- SERVER01
Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.

Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

When i just select 2 of them i get this error:

Backup- \\SERVER01\Microsoft Exchange Public Folders

was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

When i select the last one that remains i get this error:

Backup- \\SERVER01\Microsoft Exchange Public Folders

<

>

was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.

None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

And when i DON'T select the local drive but i DO select "Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes" & "Microsoft Exchange Public Folders"
i get NO errors! All the above selections are all with "Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes" & "Microsoft Exchange Public Folders"

Does any one have any clue?

Kind Regards,

Are you making a new selection list or making the changes in the same selection list. If you select the text view for the selection list there might be entries selected that are no longer exist.

Try to create a brand new selection list and select the first drive and run the backup and so forth.
Also it is recommended not to backup flat file of exchange instead do the backup of exchange database and exclude the flat files from the selection list

Hi Berry,

You say that when you select the Information Store, the error goes away compared to selecing what is on the drive itself? Is this the case?
It is always preferential to backup Exchange via the agent. when selecting the drive itself, BE would invoke active file exclusion. Because those files are in use (*.edb etc), they would never be backed up.

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply.
Very good advice (works alot of the times)
But not this time. I allready tried.

Thanks for your reply.
I was thinking about that just this afternoon.
BUT -> I've got my selection very carefull -> The order is:

Exchange Priv
Exchange Pub
Local drives
Etc..

This should be the order right?
Can it be that BE holds the file untill the "COMPLETE" back-up is done?
Then i think i only simply need to exclude the .edb files to make sure this is working (right?)

Mmm...BE's active file exclusion would take care of the EDB being in use. If not, look at putting in your own exclusion for those files.
BE would want exclusive access to that Information Store, which could be leading to your issue. I know in later versions that it is possible to select your Exchange installation folders, and BE would simply ignore the *.edb & *.stm files. I do this currently in BE 2010 (and did this in BE 12.5).

Laters!

My current selection is (in this specific order):

Server01 (backup server)
Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes
Microsoft Exchange Public Folders
C: (Complete)
D: (Excluded exchsvr)
E: (Complete)
Server-AOS (Kind of a File server)
C: (Complete)
D: (Complete)
Termserv (Terminal Server)
C: (Complete)

Now i get this error:

Now i realy dont know where the problem can come from. There is no other back-up application active on the server or on other servers that can disturb this back-up.

Hi there,

What happens if you run a backup of Exchange during the day by itself? Do you get the same issue?
