I've seen this posted about several times, but none of the solutions worked for me.
"Connection with server failed. Hit <F5> to retry".
I know the service account that I am using is sufficient, because I use it in another BE2010 installation (geographically different). The only difference is that this time BE2010 is installed on a DC.
Please help!

Backup exec service account does not have enough rights on this server
this is mostly seen on win 2008 server, please add backup exec account to required
besa rights to "Domain controller security policy" as described in the technote below.
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH84628
2. Also verify Backup exec remote agent service running on LSA .

Did exactly as the document described and verified that the Remote agent for Windows Servers was set to "Local System"; no luck.
Same results.
If there any tool I can run to see where the snag is?
Like I said this is a DC, so I cannot add the service account to the local admin group (there is none on a DC).
Also, from the Selection List when I try to right-click on "Manage Active Directory Domains", BE freezes up.

Domain controller security policy works like local security policy.
If Windows 2008 server is a domain controller then the same right needs to be assigned to Backup Exec logon account under Domain Controller security policy.
Please try this and add backup exec service account all these BESA recuirement manually like this:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH66221
2. Also you can use a new domain admin account from begining if this fails
a. make it service account
b. add the account to besa requirement as above
