Cannot make any selections for a new backup job

I have just taken over a new site and the backups havent ran for over a year.  When trying to create a new backup job, it will not expand "Local Selections" or "User-defined Selection" and I cannot select anything.  All services are running and system account has domain admin privileges.  Please advise.

what Version and Build are you running?  what SP?

have you tried a Repair Install, followed by the latest SP?

Does the media server and the clients have the same version of Backup Exec? You can check the clients version thru beremote.exe properties that you can see on the Program Files>Symantec>beremote.exe. tnx
