All,

Please help me. I have bene baning my head against the wall on this one. I downloaded all of the outstanding BackupExec 10d updates and installed them on one of my two servers without any problems. On the second server, I get the same error over and over when I try to install any update or even if I try to uninstall and/or re-install the program. The only difference between thse two machiens is that they are both running Windows Server 2003, but the one filaing is the Domain Master.

1. When I try to install SP2, I get a pop up that says:

"The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."

2. From the Event Log Viewer I get the following event:

"Product Symantec Backup Exce for Windows Servers Failed"

The EventID is 11708 and the source is the MsiInstaller.

3. From the bkupinst.log i get the folowing error message:

"Symantec Backup Exec (TM) 10.0 for Windows Servers Installation Log

Start time: 12-27-2006,15:52:53"

I have tried the following:

1. Installing the newest MSIInstaller.
2. /unreg and /register the MSIInstaller Service.
3. Checking permissions on the C:\Windows\Installer folder for SYSTEM access.
4. Making sure I had no local group policy stopping the installation
5. Disabled any/all other software when trying to run the installation.
6. Checked and compares permissions and entries on the wokring machine versus the one that will not work for the Local Machine/Software/Veritas/Backup Exec registry key.

I am at a loss and really do not want to run the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility as I am not sure it will get everything off of the machine (services, registry entries and so on) and that might make re-installing or the server unuseable.

If I had to I could do this, but I would really like to find the source of the problem as well as fix it.

Thanks in Advance!!!

Update:

I enabled logging on the Windows Installer when trying to apply any of the patches. Here is the result:

I have verified that the 971dfe.msi packge is OK becasue I can run it on other machines. it looks like it is failing at this point here.

"Looking for sourcelist for product {80A60B58-4D1E-4460-AAA6-0139BAF5B191}"
How do I determine what this was supposed to be?

I had to completely uninstall the program and re-install it. Since I saved the installation folder before the uninstall, no settings and info were nlost.
