Compression Disabled after each Backup

Hi, I am using Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Server. I am using a Seagate DDS-4 (20gig uncompressed, 40gig compressed) tape drive. Everytime a backup is run the tape drive is set to compression disabled, but i set it to be enabled before the test begins. It also states that the tapes are capable of about 1.25:1 compression ratio on Backup Exec. Thanks in advance.

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your question.

Make sure that Tape Device supports hardware compression. You need to contact the manufacturere of the device.

If the device supports Hardware compression then perform following steps.

Before you run Backup job perform following steps to Enable the Hardware compression.

1. Device Manager.

2. Slect the tape device.

3. Right click on the tape device select properties.

4. Select settings Tab.

5. Check the option Enable Hardware compression.

Once you finish this while performing Backup please select Hardware compression option.(Backup job properties -> General -> Compression Type)

We hope this information helps, if you have any other questions please respond to the post and we will be more than happy to assist you further.
