Dear all,

After having tryed dozens of KB, forums advices, and so many things I don't know what to do anymore !!!

This is the error I get when starting BackupExec 2010 R2 :

Error starting the service Backup Exec Device & Media Service on SVRBACKUPS. Service-specific error code returned:  0x2000e2d3 (536928979)

I'm not sure if it is due to the fact I had to change the Windows password, but whatever happens, I don't know what to do !

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Denis

Have you tried updating the password for the the BE services, if not then open Windows services

console and update password for BE device & media service, BE server service, BE Job Engine and

BE Agent Browser service. If this does not resolve the issue then you may reload the BE database

from backup. Refer to  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH67962

Note: Do make a copy of the DATA folder before reloading database from backup.

DATA folder is located at  C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data

Dear AmolZeroCool,

Thanks a lot for your reply, I tried the first step, updating the password in all 4 services, but the error is still the same...

Therefore I tried the second step, but also the same error, still...

Error starting the service Backup Exec Device & Media Service on SVRBACKUPS. Service-specific error code returned: 0x2000e2d3 (536928979)

Do you have an idea for a next step ?

Thanks a lot in advance for any help !

Would you pls confirm what steps you have tried upto now ? Have you checked all possibilities per TECH51252 ?

In fact I see you were asking for the status of "SQL Server (BKUPEXEC)".

The status is "Started".

Dear VJware,

To  be very precise and to be sure I went thru TECH51252 once again :

1. OK done, took extremely long but failed to start:

Update media server configuration to reflect new media server name.
Starting services for server:SVRBACKUPS.
Server:SVRBACKUPS, Service:BackupExecAgentAccelerator started successfully.
Server:SVRBACKUPS, Service:BackupExecDeviceMediaService failed to start.
Starting services for server SVRBACKUPS completed with errors.
Error: Starting services for a list of servers failed, see prior errors.
Operation to update media server configuration to reflect new media server name SVRBACKUPS ended with errors.

2. OK service is already running

3a. ERROR

Performing grant of login for BEDB database.
Error: Unable to grant or revoke the login.
Database login WORKGROUP\Backup for server SVRBACKUPS ended with errors.

3b. I tried again without specifying WORKGROUP but same ERROR :

Performing grant of login for BEDB database.
Error: Unable to grant or revoke the login.
Database login SVRBACKUPS\Backup for server SVRBACKUPS ended with errors.

4. The technote is not clear enough, they say to type this :

osql -E -S server name\INSTANCENAME

But what is INSTANCENAME ???

I tried with "BKUPEXEC" at random and I was able to continue :

Again they say to use this, but what is DATABASENAME, "BEDB" ?

EXEC sp_dboption 'DATABASENAME', 'single user', 'TRUE'

Oh ! it's all written at the end of the process...

Anyway I did everything indicated in that Technote.

5. Connexion is SUCESSFUL !

6. TCP and named pipes were already selected. Shared memory is also selected.

I hope it helps you to see where the problem could be ;)

Thanks again a lot for your help !

Have you tried using a different account for BESA ? Also, do ensure the SQL instance is running under local system account

Dear VJware,

I don't know SQL server very well : how can I check under which user it runs ?

(Note : this machine is not part of a domain)

On the BE media server, open services.msc & edit the properties of the BKUPEXEC SQl instance ...check the log on tab & ensure Local System Account is being used

Oh, no, it was the current user, not the Local System Account !

I changed that. (And restarted SQL)

But still not working... same error !
