My customer is running Veritas backup Exec 11d on a MS Windows 2003 server. The tapedevice in use is a HP TV DAT 72 USB External. All updates available on Veritas have been installed.

In the midle of an operation the device stops, and the following message is reported in the log:

The V-article link does not work, - documnet not found.

You have to restart the backup-server in order to be able to communicate with the device again.

Any idea of what could be wrong and not the least how to fix it.

Best regards

Evald N.

Hi Evald.

Are you convinced that this issue is being caused by Backup Exec, and not the O/S maybe?

Try to do a NTBackup to the same device and see what it does?

Cheers

Hello Evald,

Thank you for choosing Symantec's online support.

Based on the error message, I would start by looking at the Windows System Event log for SCSI errors.

Usually the SCSI errors are logged as event ID's 5, 7, 9, 11, and 15.

These may either occur during boot of the server or during the backup job.

If you find any of these, then you will need to address those errors.

For more information regarding troubleshooting of SCSI backup devices, please refer to the following technote:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/255501

It was originally written for Backup Exec 9.x and 10.x, however, the information it contains still apply to version 11d.
