Duplicate Media Entries in Media Pool

Hello,

i have a problem with media Management.

I use a 10 tape changer, where one tape is set up as cleaning tape.
So there's 9 tapes available.

I defined a pool, where overwrite protecion is one week and append protection is 2 days.

After a while i can see duplicate Media entries in the pool with identical Media Name (e.g. C0000001, ans so on.).

What am i doing wrong ? I thought, that each media is only once in the pool.

Thanks for any help.

Regards

G.

Sorry Deepali, if you might think i am not willing to read the documentation.

I tried this of course before posting this question.

But i guess, i still do not find the reason for the duplicate media entries.

Could you pls. give me a hint?

Thanks

G.

Hi,

-- Are these duplicate Media entries shown as offline and online ?

-- Have you activated Bar code and does Device support bar codes?

-- Run Repair Database and try again

Hope this will help you

Hi and thanks for your patience,

-- Are these duplicate Media entries shown as offline and online ?
i guess they are online. The only thing that changes is the blue / and black colour, depending on the pool settings.

-- Have you activated Bar code and does Device support bar codes?
Yes, both. We use an exabyte vxa10 for about 2 years now.
The problem occured, when i replaced the tapes with a new set of tapes (all at once). The new tapes all became a new barcode range.

...and i will try to repair the database. It will take some days, until i can figure out, if something changed. I will give you a feeback ASAP.

Thnaks meanwhile.

There's still duplicate media entries.

So yes - maybe i do not know how to configure the media rotation with our tape changer.

What i want:

we have 9 usable tapes in the changer.

Best would be, if we'd use them continiously to backup as many days as possible.

For example:

each tape has 100 GB space available. we need 120 GB each day.

I want the system to start with tape one.
In the same cacle the tape two should be used for the last 20 GB.
Next day, the system is appending to tape two the next 80 GB.
Then tape three is taken for the rest of 40 GB.

and so on, until tape 9 is used. Now tape one can be overridden.

This is no classical Backup scheme i guess, but i would be happy if the system could do this.

And most of all:

I don't want these duplicate entries in the media pool.

Thank's for reminding me to read those documents. Allthough - as i read them before - they were not really helpfull, regarding my problem with duplicate media entries.

To test if those are still created, i removed all old, duplicate medias from the pool. Today i can see, that tape No. 8 again is twice in the pool.

I cannot see, how overwrite and append period could cause this. Maybe, because when overwriting a new tape-id is written or something like this.

Anyway - i still could need some help with this issue.
