We are running Veritas Backup Exec 10.0 Rev. 5484 Service Pack 4 + Hot Fix 33

BE 10.0 is running on Windows 2000 Build 2195 : Service Pack 4.
Server is fully patched as of May / 2006.

System is a Dell PowerEdge 1650.

When attempting to view a job history of a failed job we receive the following error when clicking on the "Job Log" tab:

Job Log Display Error

One or more errors were encountered converting the job log into a web page for display. The job log will be displayed in text format.

Unexpected end of input.

54: C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT\Data\.xml

I have seen this posted several time on this message board. All postings were abandoned. Let's see if WE can resolve this one!

Installed both patches mentioned in the article:

How to obtain the latest Microsoft XML 4.0 service pack
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;818409

How To Upgrade the Microsoft XML Parser
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;324460#2

This had no effect.

Following the article I then re-register the following DLLs located in C:\Windows\System32\:

MSXML.dll, MSXML1.dll, MSXML2.dll , MSXML3.dll and MSXML4.dll

And

In the following folder C:\Program files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data.

I deleted the old and not relevant .XML files which you think wouldn't be required anymore. I went so far as to delete ALL the .XML files in the data folder.

As suggested in the article I also ran a new backup job. After it completed, I tried opening the job log. The job log still gave me the error.

I believe it's save to say this did not fix the issue.

Hello,

Please perform a repair database. Open BEUTILITY.EXE from \program files\veritas\backup exec\NT.

Select All media server by right clicking, add the media server and select repair database from the task pane on the left.

After repairing the database I still get a job log display error when trying to view the job log.

The error is:

Unexpected end of input.

38 C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data\.xml
