I'm setting up a new backup sysem.

I'm using BE 10.0 on Windows Server 2003 and a brand new Quantum SDLT drive.

When I run a backup job I get errors during the verification phase. The job log reads "The data being read from the media is inconsistent"

I've applied the lateste BE service pack and I've tried cleaning the drive, and several different tapes.

Am I missing anything?

I have now gone so far ast to replace the drive, and I'm still getting the same errors:

Difference encountered in file data.
and
Data being read from the media is incosistent.

I'm getting very frustrated here.

Hello,

From the list given below verify if the device that you are using is tested
if it is tested then install Veritas drivers. If it shows compatible then install OEM drivers.

Take a backup on Backup to disk folder and verify if the same error occurs.

Thanks.

Maybe a solution (i got the same error, but with reading errors)

Check wether the SCSI cable wich is connected with your backup device has a terminator at the end.

I have followed everything suggested in this thread and have had the drive replaced by the Manufacturer. It is on the hardware compatibility list as tested and I receive this error with every backup. I started with brand new drive and running version BackupExec 9.1. Upgraded to 10.0 and continue to receive the errors.

I am experiencing the same problem, at two different client sites. The tape drive was just replaced by HP at one of the sites, even though it was not failing the HP LT&T test suite. Since then, we have tried updating to the latest BE 10, with no change. The thread on this can be followed in the 9.x forum at:

A Google search on this term "difference encountered in file data" brings up the interesting point that this error was produced by a bug that was fixed in one of the 9.0 updates. A possible regression or a new way to trigger the same bug?

The answers we are getting from Veritas have yet to fix the problem, and seem to change depending upon who we talk to.

Oddly enough, replacing the SCSI card with a 2940U2W cured this problem at one of my sites. We have yet to try this at the other site. Interestingly, replacing the card with another 29160LP did NOT fix the problem.

Once again, this problem is NOT seen using NTBackup, or other utilities, only in BE.
