Error when installing Backup Exec 12.5

Hi All,

I am running a Windows 2003 Server with Service Pack 1.

The server had Veritas 8.6 installed, but the backup device failed and when we replaced the device, we discovered that the drivers were incorrect.

To rectify we removed Veritas 8.6 and attempted the install of 12.5, however we received the following error:

Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition -- Error 29515. SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'sa'. Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.

We then removed the entire SQL install and retried the installation with default settings. This gave us the same error.

Any ideas?

Phil

could you upload the bkupexec.htm file located at C:\doc. and settings\all users\application data\symantec\backup exec please....

Also try to check the registry entries in this article:
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/287320.htm
 if present delete them....

hope this helps...

Hi,

After looking t the logs, we are facing issues with traces of SQL Express which is not yet completely uninstalled.
Download installer cleanup utility and remove everything that says "SQL Express"......SQL Writers...etc

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Also rename the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server to .OLD

Hope this helps....
