Hi All Expert,

I'd like to know more about backing up Exchange Server 2007 SP1 using Backup Exec 12 + Exchange Server Agent
here's what i've done:

on the BACKUP SERVER:
1. Install BE 12 + Agent
2. Install Exchange Management Console and run Windows Update
3. Install BE 12 System Recovery Option for Windows Server 2003 and run Live Update.

on the Exchange Server 2007 SP1 Update Rollup 2:
1. Run Windows Updates
2.  Install MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1 package from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E17E7F31-079A-43A9-BFF2-0A110307611E&displa... ???

I'm still unsure about the option number 2 above, I've downloaded and it's version 6.5.8039.0 which was release 28-8-2008, it is said that it was for Exchange 2003 which is definitely 32 bit dll.

does anyone ver try to install that Mapi CDO to restore the backup yet ?

please share your experience here because I'd like to know if its causing harm to my production server at the moment.

Thanks.

You do want to install that CDO package from Microsoft. That CDO package is not for Exchange 2003, but for Server 2003 or Server 2008. In fact, it says it won't install on a computer with Exchange 2003: "This package will not install on a system on which any version of Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or earlier is installed."

I will also note that Exchange 2007 SP1 is up to rollup 4: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8b492ed2-ea92-412f-a852-3aa1c58d9499&Displa...

Lastly, as one final thing that you should have installed, you should make sure that you have the latest VSS update package: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349.

Just for the record, I have restored using GRT.
