Full back up Failed which set will incremental back up refer to

Hello,

I had recently updated root password for my application servers . I forgot to update the same in the Symantec backup scheduler resulting in full backup failing for the same servers. Can, someone please tell me as to how will the incremental back up scheduled next will refer to since this full back up has now failed.

Are you running the backup using the Archvie bit or modified time ?

Eg Suppose you have a following backup stratery

Weekly full and Daily incremental.

Incremetnal backup will backup the changes from last full or incremetnal backup . So if you full backup fails  the incremental backup would backup the changes from the last incremental backup.

You should re-run your full backup to get a good baseline before continuing with your incremental backup.

. If the last backup set was not deleted the incremental backups will run without any issue.

Regardless of whether the last backup set is deleted or not, the incremental backup will run without problem.
