GFS media pool with usb hard drives and DVDs?

Alex_Menard

I know Backup Exec 10 can backup to usb 2.0 hard drives.
Can I take 9 usb hard drives and set up a granfather-father-son rotation scheme as follows?
4 daily, 4 weekly, and one monthly.

How do I do this?

If I also had an external usb 2.0 or SCSI DVD burner, could DVD RW media be used in the media pool?

Based on the size of the nightly backup, can a rule be setup to backup to the either the usb hard drive or the DVD?

Hello Alex,

Yes it would be possible to create a GFS with 9 USB drives.

You can configure three media sets, one for daily, one for weekly and one for monthly backups.

For each media set, you can specify the overwrite and append protection periods. When you swap the USB devices, do not forget to use the Hot Swappable Device Wizard.

These technotes should help you achieve the desired.

Make sure if you are using a CD or DVD you have formatted it with a third party software.
