Help me do a restore please!! :D

Hi all

I've not long started in this company and the backup procedure is very different from my previous company.

However, this seems a very simple problem that I cannot get my head around.

One of the directors has asked for some emails to be recovered from April.

He has cleared out his Inbox since then (quite recently) and deleted the emails but wants them recovered from the middle of April.

Our backup procedure is thus:

Monday - Thursday incremental backups

Friday - full backup

On the last Friday of the month, the full backup is kept as a "month end" backup and stored off site.

New tapes replace these and the pattern continues.

I have retrieved the month end backup tapes for June.

The director said he cleared out his emails in August so if I restore his mailbox from the June backup those emails should still be there, right?

Well I'm stumped.

The month end (and weekly) backups are on 5 tapes.

I have put the tapes into the autoloader.

Can someone advise me on what to do next?

Inventory?

Catalog?

Catalog all tapes one after another?

Where do I find the mailbox once the above is one (if I need to?)

If I just go to create a new restore job, there are all sorts of backups and tape numbers already in the list from recently, all the way back.

I basically just want Backup Exec (10d) to let me see ONLY what is on those tapes and let me browse to the directors mailbox.

Then if I restore it, how far back will it restore emails?

I only really want those from the last 2 weeks of April - will it restore hundreds and hundreds of emails?

Sorry for so many questions but I'm a slight novice at this!

Just to update,

I have right clicked a tape and clicked Restore... and it automatically takes me to the backup completed 05/7/10 (which is correct - June's month end)

I select the mailbox and perform a restore but when I view the mailbox after the job has completed, it only restores the previous 7 day's mail (about 200 messages appear unread)?

What about the emails from April?

I've checked the deleted items and they are not in there.

Why havent all the emails from the previous month appeared and not just the 7 days prior to the backup being taken?

June month end backup should be of 25th June 2010 (Last friday of June). Right?

You can try using April month end backup or Last two week full backups of April...

I think the tape you used for restore is First week's full backup of May. (According to your main post). That's why you got only one week's mails that to from 1st May to 7th May.

Sure sounds like what you have is an INCR rather than a FULL

Double check that you have selected the correct tape
