How to completely remove a Tape drive from the Backup Software, but keep it on the server?

Hi,

we have an HP Tape drive in use with 2 stand-alone drives.

One of the drives (labelled HP3) should not be used by the symantec software, but remain on the server for other purposes and being accesible.

When i disable tape drive  HP3 in the backupsoftware, it is still labeled as busy when using cygwin and can' t be used.

Deleting it also dont work, because after a restart this tape drive is back again.

Software Backup Exec 12.0
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

I hope someone has an idea how to handle this case, thx a lot in advance :)

After disabling it, did you try restart the services? This would ensure that any lock on the drive would be released.
It is pointless deleting it...whatever is detected in Windows will be detected in BEWS.
