Dear All,
I am using Backup Exec 2010 on Windows Server 2003 R2 64 bit SP2
Running Exchange 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit.
I am using backup to tape.
I know that Exchange 2010 doesnt support backing up individual mailboxes like it was in Exchange 2003 and i have to backup the whole informations store.
In the backup job i chose to use the GRT so i can recover message , mail box and public folder.
I tried to test the restore of the mail message and I knew that Symantec BE has to restore the whole Database first from tape to Temp folder then ut restore the message !!!!!
This is not practical at all...should I restore the 97 GB database for one message !!! I tired to test it to make sure but the restore job keep running then it fails with the error "A communication failure has occurred"...."connection to restore target has been lost operation canceled"
Please advice about:
Is that the proper way to restore.
Is there any other way than this.
Why the restore job fails like that!!
Thanks

If you are backing up Exchange 2010 and your media server is Win 2003, then this config isn't supported as the BE media server should be Win 2008 (x64) / Win 2008 R2 atleast.
KB - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO24128
That being said, you can still try to duplicate the existing backup sets from tape to disk using this KB - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH24544
