IDR Restore fails

Jon_Sparkes

I have a Windows Server 2003 AD network using Backup exec 9.1 and I am currently testing the IDR "Just incase I need it".

I have created the boot CD with IDR data on OK.

Booted the server OK

Loaded the raid controllers OK

Perfermed the first part of the restore from the CD OK

But when I try to connect to the remote storage server I get the following error message.
"Unable to add service to the local Administrators Group"
Which is followed by a second pop error saying.
"Unable to establish connection with media server"

After this occurs I get the following message on my backup server
"Final error 0xa000848c"

Old problem.

Try things the manual way- IDR just gets in the way.

Install windows, install SP1, install BE, hit restore.

You'll be in a much better position to diagnose any issues this way.

The reason I need this to work is I am liable for reserve call up and my boss wants the DR to be fully automated. So if necessary some one with limited knowledge of the company can quickly and effectivly rebuild in my place. We have gone to the trouble of getting backup hardware ready in a DR location.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Jon

Hi John,

In my experience, you will never hand a complete DR job to someone with "limited experience" and have them complete it.

Wanting anything "fully automated" is definitely never going to happen.

That's about all the information I can give you- if you get a process that works, document it as best you can, and inform you boss if your staff can't follow it, then he needs more staff.
