INIC Controller Support

I have a system that is using a SATA AIT-2 tape drive with a basic PCI SATA controller card.  We can get one backup run and then the drive drops off and an error is thrown that says the controller timed-out.  I contacted the controller manufacturer and they suggest I check to see if backup Exec 11d supports the INIC controller chipset.  Any ideas?  The controller is a SIIG SATA II-150 PCI.  If it is not support can anyone suggest a basic SATA controller we can use on this drive?

Symantec doesn't have a list of controllers that are supported or aren't supported.

As long as the OS supports it then it should work.
