Hello !!

We have brand new HP VLS6636 VTL. BE12 compatibility matrix says that only LTO3 and LTO1 (emulation) is supported for VLS6xxx series. Is it really so ? We would like to use LTO2 emulation to to D2D2T backups to our MSL6063 tape library which has Ultrium 460 LTO2 drives ?

Have I understood totally incorrect compatibilty list or is there any trick to do that ?

Regards;

Harri

We are currently working with HP to ascertain what is currently supported (LTO1,LTO2, & LTO4 etc...) from their perspective.

Here is the latest copy of the HCL for 11d and 12 with the most recent changes for the VSL6000 family.

You have interpreted the HCL correctly.
The HP VLS6000 Series VTL is supported in only two emulation mode,LTO 1 and LTO 3.
Configuring the VTL to emulate LTO 2 drive would result in an unsupported configuration.

Configure the virtual device with the unique inquiry string as listed in the HCL. Emulating other devices is not supported.

For each virtual library only the virtual tape drives that are listed are supported. This information can be found with each virtual section. Other virtual tape drive types are not supported even if the real device is supported with Backup Exec.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Do you know will LTO2 be supported in VLS6xxx series near future ? Why you have jumped over LTO2 because in 11d HCL there was only LTO3 emulation mentioned ?

The information in the Hardware Compatibility List is organized by vendors and it provides information on the level of software tested, inquirystring (vendor ID + product ID), and any other important notes about the hardware and its compatibility when it was tested with Backup Exec by the Vendor.
