LTO2 issues

Hi,

I am using BEW9.1 SP3. I have recently removed a DDS4 drive and replaced it with a Certance LTO2. I can read and write to the media using the Certance TapeRX tool. I can not however backup to the tape using BEW. I have run the device configuration wizard, installed Veritas drivers however whenever I try to backup I get an alert prompting to insert overwritable media. I have also tried the same using OEM drivers, I have disabled and enabled the removable storage manager in Windows accordingly. I am using Server 2003.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this one?

Just to clarify this. When I run a backup the job hangs on Loading Media. I then get an alert prompting to insert overwritable media.

Resolved...

Had initially downloaded a library update. The update would not install sucesfully until I removed and reinstalled BEW.

Hello,

It seems that the tape that you are using is overwrite protected, that is the reason you are getting this error message. If you are running an overwrite job, make sure that the tape that you use for it, is not overwrite protected.

Refer to the following technotes:

Title: When performing a backup operation with Backup Exec, the alert message "Please insert overwritable media" is displayed.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/204061

Title: When performing a backup operation, the alert: "Please insert overwriteable media into the changer using the slot import command" is generated.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/230608

Additionally also refer to the following docs which give a detailed explaination of the media protection periods and the way backup exec picks media:

The basics of Advanced Device and Media Management for Backup Exec for Windows Servers
http://support.veritas.com/docs/192265

An explanation of the "Overwrite Protection Period" and the "Append Period"
http://support.veritas.com/docs/237374

Hope this helps in resolving the error. In case it doesn't revert with details.
