Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error - with MDAC 2.8 - MSXML Installed

Ross_Leak

Dear Forum,

I have recently upgraded a Windows 2000 SBS server from Backup Exec 8.6 to Backup Exec 10.0. However I cannot get the Backup Exec 10.0 administration program to load. On run it gives me the error :

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Program: C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\BkupExec.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I have searched the support base and found a similar error article ( http://support.veritas.com/docs/268113 ) although the error message is different. I have updated MSXML to the latest version and MDAC. I have also updated the SBS server to the latest patch levels from Microsoft and have tried a repair, a reinstall from scratch etc but I continue to get this error.

I would appreciate any feedback from forum users or the support team on this issue.

Kind Regards,
Ross

Dear Veritas Support,

Neither of the suggestions you have given have solved the problem. I am still getting exactly the same error as stated in the original post. This also happens when loading the beutility.exe application. Could you please liase with the forum user "Helpdesk" for rectification of this now on going support issue. We are in urgent need of a fix for this bug in the 10.0 software.

Hello,

1. Download the Component Checker Utility from the link given below:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6c050fe3-c795-4b7d-b037-185d0506396c&DisplayLang=en

2. Run the file cc.exe

3. Select the second option Perform analysis against a selected version.

4.Select the MDAC version that has been applied and click OK.

5.If the MDAC has not been applied successfully, then some files may be shown as mismatched as they were not updated.

Please update us whether there any mismatched files.

Thanks,

Hello,

The previous link not being a direct link, please refer to this link to download the MDAC component checker:We apologise for the incinvenience

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=8f0a8df6-4a21-4b43-bf53-14332ef092c9&displaylang=en

The page clearly states Windows 2000 as one of the supported operating systems, sp you can use this download.

Hello

You misunderstood me. I am asking which version am I to compare it to, as I the mdac version which is installed, is not listed on the cc.exe program.

when running cc.exe, it gives me a choice of various mdac 2.8 versions to compare it to

1 mdac 2.8 RTM
2 mdac 2.8 sp1 on win xp sp2
3 mdac 2.8 sp2 on win 2003 srv sp1

the obvious choice would be to choose mdac 2.8 RTM, as I do not have any of the other operating systems listed, however I do not want to compare it to something which is incorrect as this may lead to incorrect results on the mismatch so your advice would be very much appreciated.

assuming that RTM 2.8 is the MDAC version installed, here are the results of the mismatch comparision.

ODBCBCP.DLL
Expected version 2000.85.1022
file version 2000.85.1025.0

SQLSRV32.DLL
Expected version 2000.85.1022
file version 2000.85.1025.0

MSXML3.DLL
Expected version
8.40.9419.0
File Version 8.5.2162.0

Hello,

Was the upgrade from 8.6 to 10.0 successful?
Apply Sp1, if you have already applied then reapply it and verify results.

(title) VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 10.0 for Windows Servers revision 5484 - Service Pack
http://support.veritas.com/docs/275248
Reapply MDAC and verify results.

. Download MDAC Component Checker once again for version 2.8 from the Microsoft Web site

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8f0a8df6-4a21-4b43-bf53-14332ef092c9&DisplayLang=en

2. Run Component Checker once more and perform analysis against the selected version (select 2.8 RTM)

3The result will display .dll that are mismatched

Thanks,

have updated to sp1 for ver 10 which was a success

am waiting to reboot the server for mdac 2.8 sp1 install to complete.

will then run mdac component checker AGAIN

Please note, that all these actions have been completed previously. Is there anything else / different you can suggest which HAS NOT been tried before, as we seem to be going round in circles at present.

You can download from here - http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/microsoft/patches/internet-explorer/6.0sp1/ie60sp1.exe
