Migrating catalogs/media data from other 9.1 server

I have a new file server which will run BEX 10.0. I would like to copy the catalog and other media information from the server it is replacing (which is running BEX 9.1).

I don't care about copying settings or jobs... mostly just the catalog information and also media set information.

Thanks in advance!

1.) Copy the content of %install path%\veritas\BE\NT\Catalogs to the new BE10 server. Stop & Start all BE services.
2.) Copy the file %install path%\Veritas\BE\NT\Data\BEDB.bak to the new server. Overwrite the existing file on the new server.
3.) On the new server open %Install Path%\Veritas\BE\NT\BEUtility.exe Add your server name to the "All Media Server" group. Right click on your server and select Recover Database and choose 'Drop Database and recover from backup'

Step two also recovers the device database (tape drives) from the old configuration- the devices can be deleted if not desired. (The device and media database are tied together)

Hi,

There are two ways of achieving the desired output:
================================================
Method 1:
1. Upgrade the present installation of Backup Exec v9.1 to Backup Exec v10.0. You can install/upgrade to version 10.0 in evaluation mode.
2. Create the .Cfg file using "Copy Media Server Configurations" of Beutility
Configuration information that can be copied includes all:
- Jobs, including backup, restore, and report jobs.
- Policies, templates and selection lists
- Logon information
- Media sets
- Other information such as job defaults, error handling rules, alert configuration and
default schedule data.

3. Install Backup Exec v10.0 on the destination server running Windows 2000 Advanced Server (server B)

4. Import the configuration information on the Server B (BEWS10.0) using
"Apply Copied Media Server Configuration" option of Beutility

For more information on the utility please review page number 757 of the Administration Manual:

Method 2:

Review the following document to move existing installation of Backup Exec v9.1 to another server:
