According to http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67768  you cannot migrate to a different OS

Symantec does offer http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH129826 , which they offer on a "use it at your risk" basis

if your local procedures permit, you could build out the new server on Windows 2003, migrate v12.5 to that server (following the first technote), then upgrade the OS to 2008 and finally upgrade BackupExe t0 2010

Hello Tim ,

This is what you can try so that the original win 2003 server with BEWS 12.5 will not get affected.

A) Build a new test server ( win server 2003 ) , Install BEWS 12.5 with the latest SP. Now go to the original server & stop all the BEWS services including the SQL (BKUPEXEC). Go to \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data & copy the database files to the desktop. This will be bedb_dat.mdf and bedb_log.ldf files. Move the following files to the desktop of the test server. Start the bews services on the original server starting with SQL (bkupexec) in the following order

1) SQL server (BKUPEXEC) 2) Backup exec device & media service 3) Backup Exec server service 4) Backup exec remote agent for windows server 5) Backup exec job engine service 6) Backup exec agent browser

B) On the test server , open BEUtility which is located in program files\symantec\program files\backup exec

In the middle column, select All Media servers. In the right column, right click the New server and select Copy Database. In both prompts, browse to the Desktop and select the BEDB data base files. Click ok & wait until the migration completes

C) Launch the BEWS console & you will see all the migrated jobs. From here you can upgrade BEWS 12.5 directly to BE 2010. After the upgrade is successful , make sure you run liveupdate & then reboot the server. Launch BE console to verify that jobs are migrated

D) If the jobs are successfully migrated . We can use the database files from this server (bedb_dat.mdf and bedb_log.ldf ) & paste it on the desktop of win 2008 . Use BEUtility to perform copy database & it should work for you

Rather than cut and paste the contents, why didn't you just tell the OP to follow the second Tech Note that I referenced?

And why did you not include the fact the this is an officially unsupported work-around?
