New 11d - can't get license key/evaluation not working

I have a new install of Backup Exec 11d running as an evaluation copy. I have purchased the product, but the license key supplied through the licensing portal is not being accepted. Since the phone support indicates a long wait, I submitted an issue to customer care online. Unfortunately, they have not responded to a separate issue I submitted three weeks ago (for another client) so I have no idea when I will get some assistance.

Anyway, for the time being, I am running Backup Exec as an evaluation copy. Unfortunately, my backup job, which is very simple, enters the running state and then immediately switches to queued where it stays indefinitely. I have no media sets defined or anything. The drive and tapes were working fine in another machine. The device is recognized fine. Is there some limitation to the evaluation version? Is there something else I should be checking? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regarding the backup, have you tried to run the backups on backup to disk folders?

Are there any alerts , you are getting?
