Overwrite vs. append

We're running Version 10.0 Rev. 5484. Suddenly jobs will not run unless configured to overwrite media (formerly configured to append). Receive this error:

When accessing a new tape of a multivolume partition, the current block size is incorrect.
V-79-57344-34035 - The block size being used is incorrect.

Tried new tapes; erase; etc. Turned off Removable Storage service. Reinstalled tape device drivers. There are two devices connected (Dell PowerVault LTO2 and Certance Viper LTO2); both are throwing the error unless job is set to overwrite.

Why would jobs start to fail for this reason after successfully completing for months?

Thanks.

Did anything happen on the media server?

Do the catalogs still look right (right size, go back as far as you expect?)

You can try forcing a catalog re-index see http://support.veritas.com/docs/272886

Maybe the values of the drives changed accidentally. Go to the drives' properties and set them to default.

Hello,

An error message: "When accessing a new tape of a multi-volume partition, the current block size is incorrect" is displayed when performing an erase media operation.

http://support.veritas.com/docs/190750

Incase the technote does not help,Check the even id and follow the information given below.

This error can also be due to hardware settings. Please refer to the MS article given below.

Cables: The first thing to check, when trouble shooting SCSI cabling, is the total length of each cable segment. Each implementation of SCSI has a different maximum recommended cable length. Exceeding the cable lengths specified for SE SCSI is ill advised.
