Overwriting on a tape

If my tape is 200 GB full out of 400GB and I need to overwrite an amount of data of 50GB, so after overwriting the 50 GB of data, only the 50GB of data will be on the tape rite? All the previous 200 GB of data will be gone?

Hello,

When Backup Exec is writing to an Overwritable Media, it will not consider if the Media has data on it, it will simply start writing data from beginning...

That is absolutely right because you are overwriting not appending

Yup thats true as it overwrite the Header of the Tape which makes the other data on the tape inaccessible
