Quick Erase not available

I have in a backup device from IBM which it's recognizing, but I remember earlier when I was trying to run a job, and I put in the media, it told me the media tape was in an unrecognizable format and that it recommended erasing it, and then it ejected the media...

When I deleted the job and put the media back in, nothing shows or pops up in Backup Exec. I tried to go to the Devices tab and do a quick erase on the media tape but it doesn't recognize it. It doesn't even appear as if a tape is in there. When I click on the device tape drive itself, it doesn't give me that option either. How do I erase this tape with it not being recognizable by backup exec?

EDIT: I got it to work by running inventory on my tape drive.

DI you run inventory after inserting tape in the tape drive?

Because when you use stand alone tape drive and put the tape in the drive, you should run inventory on the drive to make the tape appear in Backup exec.

Once the tape will show up in backup exec you can run quick erase on it.
