We have an event popping up for RSM (Removable Storage). I uninstalled the tape driver, rebooted, no error. Reinstalled the Veritas drivers, rebooted, the error reappeared. It’s saying the RSM database is corrupt. What now? Win 2003 server, current SP installed. BE v10 Rev5484

This issue may be related to the Removable Storage database being damaged or corrupted. We suggest you to refer to the following technote which will help you to resolve this issue. This technote is applicable to Backup Exec for Windows servers v9.x.

In addition, this error can be resolved by unselecting the "NTMSDATA"
folder from the backup selection list, in job definitions. This directory is located under "WINNT\System32" folder. Restart the Removable Storage Management (RSM) service after unselecting the folder and verify the results.

With respect to WMI Repository data directory, we would suggest you please try these steps:-

1. a. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

b. Find the Windows Management Instrumentation service and verify its startup type is set to "automatic" and its status is "Started".

2. This error can occur if there is no free space where \%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\BackupExecData\Export\ directory exists. To resolve this, free up at least 5 megs of hard drive space on the partition.

RSM service will not start now after trying your solution. The event says i"Neither copy of the RSM database is consistent: Reconstructing using the main datafile." The serivice will not start.
