Remote Tape Device

Is it possible to use an internal tape device on another server that does not have Backup Exec installed locally to it. I use SDLT tapes now on a Dell PV132, but I need to get at data on 3 year old DAT backup tape and I have some production servers that have a DAT internal drive.

Normally you will need a Veritas license to use the tape drive. it's a one time recovery you could move the license you have to the DAT system or move the DAT drive to the licensed system.

You could download a demo license to the DAT server to get the data off and then migrate the data to SDLT.

Hi,

It is not possible for Backup Exec to use a tape drive attached to a remote server (unless Backup Exec is installed in a SAN environment).
