Restore Incremental with Full Backup

Hi!

Will selecting the last incremental backup also restore the last full backup of a folder in BE 2014 or we still have to restore the full backup first and then every incremental backup?

Thanks.

Last full backup followed by all the incrementals in cronological order.

Since BE 2012, when you select an incremental backup, BE will automatically restore the last full backup and all the incremental backups since the last full backup to the selected incremental backup.  See this blog

For file system (C: D: etc) backups Backup Exec 2012 and later shows you a "synthetic" view of an incremental that in effect is a selection list built from the whole chain back to the full. In this view, files backed up in the most recent backup have a slightly different icon from those backed up in an earlier backup in the chain. There is however no llmitation against selecting all of the files (or multiplie individual files with different icons) in one restore job.

If you select from this view then, as long as all the media is available, Backup Exec will in effect restore everything you selected for you irrespective of whether is was backed up in last Incremental, previous Incremantal in the chain or the Full that started the chain. It does this by accessing each piece of media it needs in turn. In BE 15 I think this view is the one you see if you select the point in time option from within the restore wizard. In BE 2014 it may be called something else (or be the only view) Note either BE 2012 or 2014 (or both) did have it as the only view which customers fedback could be annoying if not all their media was online.

Restores from database or virtiual agent backups work slightly differently but most of them have to mount a representation of the complete database or virtual disk so have to assemble the fulls and incrementals to do these restores as well (so media again needs to be online)
