Robotic Library not seen

Have an ADIC Scalar 24 system with an IBM Tape Drive. The IBM Tape Drive show under Stand-alone Drive in Devices window. I am not able to drag it into the Robotic Libraries. I have Robotic Library support installed. In device manager the Medium Changer is show and using Veritas drivers.

Ran Diagnostics and saw a lot of this:

08/31/06 15:44:34 Changer InitializeDevice() failed - ERROR = 0x00000006 (ERROR_INVALID_HANDLE)
08/31/06 15:44:39 Device: \\.\MediumChanger0

Any ideas?Message was edited by:

Is this a new library connected to your server? I have a VXA library is it shows in Device Manager as Unknown Medium Changer and is using MS drivers. The tape drive is using Veritas drivers. Also make sure the Removable Storage service is not running.

Checked an you are right. Medium Changer is MS drivers and the Tape drive is Veritas. The Removable storage is not running, should it be?

No, remote storage should not be running. Can you see your library with BE Device Wizard? Also make sure your SCSI IDs are ok. Set library to SCSI ID 1 and SCSI tape drive to 2. Library should be lower number than drive.

The Tape library is set to SCSI 0 and the tape drive is SCSI 1. The library does not show up in the Device Wizard.

Well after playing with it for a while, I got the Library to show up. Now it is under robotic libraries but it is showing up offline. Cannot right click and click online because it is greyed out.

In Windows Device Manager, is the library started and ready?

In Device Manager, both the Medium Changer and the Tape Device are showing "device is working properly".

Mate,

Please try running the .exe file at the location c$\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\ tapeinst.exe on your backup server.

I got the same problem two weeks back when I was installing the tape library. It was showing up fine in Device manager but could not see in Veritas Backup Exec.

This would fix the issue.

Cheers,
Srini Reddy.

Still having no luck. Tried the suggested fixes and nothing is working. The log file still has the same messages:

and it just keeps on going like that.

Do you have any manufacturer diagnostics you can run against the library?

Have you tried mfg drivers rather than the Symantec drivers?
