Hi All,

I have to configure BE 2010 R2.

Environment:

6 Servers to be backedup. (Windows Server 2008)

EMC CLARiiON CX4-480 from which LUNS have been assigned to 6 servers.

Tandberg TL40 taple library with a single LTO4 drive and 24 slots. (FC)

Two Cisco MDS SAN switches.

Zoning:

Single intitiator zoning has been done.

Backup server & ATL also connected through SAN switch. Zoned together and server is able to recognise the tape drive.

Now customer wants the data present in SAN box to be backed directly to Tape Library.(Serverless Backup)

How to configure zoning to perform  serverless backup.

You first need to look at the Backup Exec Support for what you are trying to do

Suggest you read up on ADBO (Advanced Disk Backup Option) which can provide Off-Host capability (in supported envrionments)

Note you can't just zone the LUN to the Media Server and expect it to be able to back it up over the SAN without ADBO.

Or possiblty the NDMP Option which can is capable of backup up the LUN (as a File) to a library that is direct attached to an NDMP compatible storage device. Again check you have a supported environment.

Or possibly zone your library to the servers that uses each LUN and make each server a backup server (using SSO and/or CASO to share the Library if needed)

Hi,

I suggest you configure two zones, one for data and other for backups.

You should configure the same way you configure for san backups.

Thanks Colin for giving the valuable advice...

I think the CASO option is best suitable for this environment.

I will check about ADBO also, and informs the customer both...

Hi,

We got this BE 2010R2 as free with Tandberg T40 TL.

So, in future if any issue comes, will symantec provide support or not?

Regards.

No.  If it is bundled with your tape library, then the support is by the tape vendor, not Symantec.

BTW, you should have started a new discussion for this question since it is not related to your original question.
