SBS 2003 R2 with separate SQL Server - possible without SQL Agent?

If I have SBS 2003 R2 with Backup Exec 10.d SBS Edition. Now, new in R2, it is possible to have a second Win 2003 R2 Server with SQL and continue to use the CAL's of SQL.

In this scenario it is possible to backup the Data of the remote SQL Server WITHOUT buying the SQL Agent? If yes, also if the second Win 2003 Server and SQL Server is a 64 bit Edition?

I don't think so no. The SBS edition of Backup Exec allows you to backup all the various things on the SBS server itself, but if you want to backup data on any other servers you still need to purchase the relevent agent licenses for those remote servers.

Anyone knows if Symatec changes this? - Maybe in version 11?
And anyone has tried this combination already?

thanks

Hello,

When Backup exec is installed on a Sbs Server you cannot backup any Databases that are on a remote server..
