SBS 2008 LTO And DAT

dalger
Not applicable

Hello,

More so a question than a technical question.

We are running a SBS 2008 with BUE 12.5.  At current we have installed on the server a LTO drive that backs up the server every night.

We have backups on file from previous years that were backed up to a DAT drive.  A user needs to recover files from these tapes.

Am I able to install the DAT drive in our current server, and use 12.5 to restore those files?  Or do I need some other sort of license in order to do this?

This will only be used to restore files, not to back up.

Thanks

You are entitled to use as many stand-alone tape drives as you want.  If the DAT is a stand-alone tape drive and it is still supported by BE12.5, then you can install it and use it to read and write tapes.  After you install the DAT drive, install the Symantec drivers for it.

License is not required for a standalone tape drive.
