SBS V10 Error trying to select SQL instance for backup

578205953
Not applicable
We have an SQL database in the local default SQL group but can't select this group for backup. It produces the error message saying "An error was encountered while attampting to browse the contents of SERVER, Microsoft SQL server does not appear to be running or network connections are preventing access to it". However the server is running and one can select the "BKUPEXEC" group and databases within it.

Also, if one moves the database into the "BKUPEXEC" group it cannot be accessed from the workstations as it is protected in some way.

Can someone urgently please help resolve either of these issues so we can backup the mission critical database.

Hi,

In order to isolate the issue, please perform the following:

You may force Backup Exec to use named pipes for backup. Please try steps mentioned in the following technote:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/237456.htm

Also please refer to the following technote as and additional information:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/274303.htm

Install a SQL enterprise Manager on the media server. Verify the results.

We hope this will help.

Thanks.
