SQL server patches and updates?

I like to know if anyone applies SQL server patches and updates to the version of SQL that Backup Exec uses.  I run Windows updates but it doesn't show that I need any kind of SQL update but our SQL admin tells me that the version SQL on my Backup Exec server is out-dated and needs to be patches.

I like to know what everyone else out there is doing in regards to SQL on Backup Exec.

I definitely patch my SQL and/or SQL express. If you are running Windows Update, it will not update SQL. If you have updated that to Microsoft Update, it should get all those patches.

Lastly, and this is good advice for anyone who has ever had trouble installing a SQL service pack (a couple of SQL 2005 SPs have failed to install in the past): Go to Administrative Tools>Local Security Policy (Domain Controller Security Policy on a DC)>Software Restriction Policies right click and add a policy. Double-click Enforcement and set it to "All Software Files" and "All Users Except Local Administrators".
