Backup completes, however the result is failed. When looking at the logs there are lots of e-mail messages that have not been backed up. The error message says access denied. Is there any way to stop backup exec from doing this??

What are the permissions on those emails? Though, there might be many of them, you only need to look at a couple of them. If the username that you use to backup files is not in the email permission try adding it, then backup again and see if that email has been skipped, or check with another email to see if the list of permissions match up.

Btw, if the email server is exchange and backup exec has problems backing up emails from there, this document might help you out too:

It is still happening, i have tried so many different things, and it keeps coming back saying backup failed even though it is only failing on a few email messages??

Thank you.

Following guidelines may help to resolve the issue :

-->On the target (Exchange) system create a new user account. Make newly
created user a member of Domain Admin group.

-->Create a mailbox for newly created user. Send a mail to newly created
mailbox from different mailbox.

-->Start system manager and by right clicking the organization,
start "Delegate control" wizard and grant new user "Exchange Full
Administrator" rights .

-->Start Backup Exec, create a Logon account with same username and
password as that of newly created mailbox enabled user.
Make sure this logon account is common logon account.

To accomplish this, follow the steps given below.

- Start Backup Exec

- Select Tools > Wizards > Logon account wizard

- Add new logon account, type in the credential for the new account.

- Make this account a common logon account.

- Complete the wizard.

-->Create new backup job while connecting to Exchange databases.Select newly created user logon account.

-->Try to perform backup and check the results.

If the exchange server that is being backed up is Exchange 2000/2003 then we suggest you to consider the following:

- Open Outlook and try to access emails that are receiving Access denied/Corrupt file messages.

-If you are not able to open the emails then these emails have been quarantined by the Antivirus program or have been deleted/corrupted. If the emails have been deleted we suggest you to deselect them from the backups.

-If you are able to access the mails then stop the Antivirus program by using pre and post commands. This is for test purposes only.

We hope this helps.
