Sees Drive but not Tape after a drive change

Hi all,
running BKEXEC 10.1 Rev 5629 on a Win 2000 SP4 server.

Tape drive recently change and BKEXEC saw the new drive but couldn't see that there was a tape inserted.

Had the tape replaced again, asuming that they had put a faulty drive in, but getting the same thing.

Stopped EXEC services and tried a backup using MSBACKUP and again it complained about Removable Storage.

Checked Computer Management and the tape drive is listed in Device Manager and appears healthy.
Under Removable Storage there is a Media Pool for BackupExec and Backup, both with a sublevel showing DLT.

However the new drive doesn;t appear in the Physical Locations section.  Should it?
There are three tape drives listed in there but they all appear to be old ones and have a cross through them.

I can run an inventory against the drive in BKEXEC and it takes about 11 seconds and reports the drive as empty.

Tried removing the drive from EXEC and restarting the services. Finds the drive no problem but still can't see any tapes????

Any advice much appreciated.

Hi,

1. Run the wizard to redetect the drive, and if necessary, reallocate it to the robotics (assuming it's an autoloader etc).
2. Stop Removable Storage service.
3. Update your drivers, and then inventory the drive with a tape in to see if this detects it.

Thanks for replying Craig,
Removed drive and re-detected in BKEXEC.
Stopped and restarted Removable Storage Service services.
Tried again but still not seeing tape.

Have run update driver that found a newer driver on MS Update site. Just need to get the server rebooted to see if that changes anything.
Should the drive appear in the Physical Locations list or is that just a red Herring?
Drive is internal single DLT 40/80

regards

Graeme

In Backup Exec it would show up in the Stand-Alone Devices section.
IDeally you should be using BackuP Exec's latest drivers, so see if you can get a copy of those too!
