Slow Domino backup

Jordy_Leduc

Windows 2000 SP4, 4 GIG RAM, Domino 6.5.2 FP1. Veritas 9.1 SP2.

Getting slow bakup accross LAN, it is a private LAN, Duplex and speed settings correct. No errors on switch. Getting about 1/2 the speed for backup.

What can I check for the bottleneck.

Backup Exec totally relies on your existing network performance.
There could be several possible reasons for slow performance. Following
are the most common reasons:
1. Network infrastructure
2. Anti-virus software running
3. Excessive fragmentation of the drive
4. Faulty NIC. Sometimes, we normally see the issues get resolved by changing the NIC and updating the driver to its latest.

What VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) settings can be modified to reduce the amount of time it takes for a backup to run?

Reasons why the data throughput rate can be slower than the theoretical maximum when backing up to tape media.

Install the latest drivers:
VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20041101) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041006) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only)

Hello

Thanks for the response.

I did some more testing and found the following...

The transaction logs back up fine, about 600 m/sec. I also ran another test with domino running and backing up some other files.. IE, NON Domino databases, and the backup is fine. It ONLY seems to happen when backing up domino databases.

I therefore don't see it being an issue with
1) Network infrastructure, if a non domino backup to the same server is fine
2) Antivirus, don't think so if the above is true
4) Faulty NIC, same as above, I don't see any errors on the ports on the switch.

I will try the following and let you know

1) Defrag the drive
2) Try the latest drivers.

Thanks
