Still can't push the agents, will this EVER be fixed.

It's been almost two years and Symantec still will not fix the Windows XP SP2 agent install so we can push to the workstation.

The 1st QUESTION: WHEN IS THIS GOING TO BE FIXED?

What is wrong with Symantec? Other companies can do push install but it seems that Symantec either does not know how to fix it or does not care and will not fix it. When I ask this question over a year ago the answer all I got was a "We don't care" answer. I've been told by Tech Support that it MAY be fixed in the next release. Is that going to be a service pack release or Version 11?

The 2nd QUESTION: WILL IS EVER BE FIXED?

In version 10 Symantec went so far as to make an msi install file but did not follow the Microsoft standards so it could be installed using policies as other software can.

The 3rd QUESTION: WHY DOSN'T THE MSI FILES WORK WITH POLICIES?

Is the msi file in the next release going to follow the MS standards or are you going to do your own thing and NOT follow the standards.

So here we are well over two years later and we still have to run around to each and every workstation doing manual installs. I for one don't have the time to do this and will continue to use the version 9 agents under version 10 until it's fixed.

FYI, I ask sales about this once and you won't believe their comment. I ask, if we were Boeing and wanted this fix I bet you would fix it today. His comment, Yes, if you were Boeing we would fix it but your not. That makes a customer feel real good.

Symantec, please take one of your "Programmers" off new features and assign them the task of fixing this problem. You could release a fix for this in a month if you wanted to. I for one can stand for a delay of some fancy new feature if I can get push installs back. Make your customers happy and do the right thing and fix this problem!

Hi,

As you know :

At this time, push installs are not possible from Backup Exec for Windows Servers or Backup Exec for NetWare Servers to Windows XP Service Pack 2 systems or Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 servers. Local installations of the Remote Agent can be carried out as described in the following article:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/258982

As this feature is not present with the current version of the product we suggest you to log an enhancement request for the desired feature:

http://enhancement.veritas.com

Update us on the same and revert for any further Query
Hope this will help you

Thank you
Gauri

YEA, YEA, YEA, same old story. Because Veritas is so lazy we have to run around and manually update every workstation on the network.

Enhancement request, ENHANCEMENT REQUEST??? What the heck, it's not a ENHANCEMENT, it a bug that's been there for TWO years!!!

Quick trying to candy coat this and just FIX THE PROBLEM!

I'll bet $1,000 that any good programmer could fix this problem in a couple of weeks tops!.

It's all too clear that Veritas just does not care about their customers, pure and simple!

Why can't you tell us the truth as to when this will be fixed?

Question: WILL THIS BE FIXED IN THE NEXT MAJOR RELEASE, which I assume is version 11, OR WILL THIS EVER GET FIXED.

John,

It seems we have a lot in common. We feel the same way about somethings...

Hello,

Refer to this document:

Push installations of Backup Exec and/or the Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) to Windows XP Service Pack 2 systems or Windows 2003 servers fail with a "connect to server" error.

http://support.veritas.com/docs/270144

The current workaround is that you install RAWS locally. It would be notified as soon as it is fixed. You can subscribe to the above document for latest updates on this issue.
