======================================
The level of protection provided by Backup Exec for Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices depends upon the Operating System running on the NAS devices, which are mentioned below:
1. NAS devices using Windows NT and Windows 2000 Operating Systems When the NAS device is using Windows NT and Windows 2000 Operating systems then a Remote Agent (Agent Accelerator) will be required and can be install on the NAS device.
2. NAS devices using Operating Systems that emulate an Operating System. In this instance where the NAS devices are using an Operating System properly 'Emulating' Windows NT and Windows 2000 Servers, the Emulation becomes transparent to Backup Exec. Files and directories can be backed up as 'Shared Network Volumes' In this type of configuration, remote agent cannot be used.
3. NAS devices using other Operating Systems. Backup Exec Remote Agent is not supported on these NAS. However, some NAS for example: Ontap UNIX NAS (Network Attached Storage) file servers can be backed up using the User-defined Selections.
We hope this helps. If issue remains unresolved, please revert with following information:
