Tape Device drivers for Windows XP Professional

Not applicable
I updated my Media server from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Professional. Since then, my HP LTO1 tape drives are very slow with backups. Backing up at only 90 Mb/min compared to 500 Mb to 900 Mb/min prior to the upgrade.

Found out that during the upgrade to XP the drivers for the LTO1 tape drives was changed from halfinch.sys (Veritas) to ltotape.sys (Microsoft). Uninstalling the Microsoft drivers then running the TapeInst Utility does not install the Veritas drivers (using the option to install Veritas drivers to any device that doesn't have a driver loaded).

I do not want to install Veritas drivers to all devices as I have two IBM LTO2 tape drives that are using IBM tape drivers instead of Veritas. These tape drives work well the way they are.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can update the tape device drivers on only the LTO1 tape drives since the TapeInst Utility did not work?

Get the HP LTO1 driver and install that in the OS

Then re-run the hardware wizard and use the Option, "Use installed Drivers" rather than "Install Veritas Drivers" (or words to that effect)

Hello,

Please check if the device that you are using is compatible and tested with Veritas. If it is, install the Veritas device drivers, if they are compatible but not tested, install OEM drivers.
