Tapes don't stay in media sets

We use a robotic library with multiple tapes. I setup one media set for each day of the week and I want to keep one tape in each media set. I want to be able to do a full backup on Fridays and incrementals on the other day, and then switch the Friday tape every week so that I always have at least a month of full backups off site. The problem is that tapes don't stay in the media sets. When I run the backup it seems to pull tapes into the media sets almost at random. I never know what tape it will use for the backup. Is there anyway to ensure that the media set will always use the same tape unless I tell it to use a different one? Thanks.

You can partition the library, and create a separate job for each night pointed at one partition rather than at "all pools"

Hello,

The problem mentioned by you may occur if the overwrite and append policy
is not configured properly.
Perform the following steps which will help in picking up appropriate media
for backup.
1. Create a media set.
2. Move all the media to the scratch media set.
Note: Moving the media to scratch media set will delete all the data.
3. Now, configure the overwrite and append period for the created media set.
The following technote's will provide you guidelines on how to configure
the overwrite and append policy.

Period

I'm going to look into both suggestions and see which works best after a couple of cycles. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hello Eric,

Do update us the results after trying out the steps. In case of a library, the media set option will not work, the tapes might jump across media sets. You will need to create partitions as suggested by Ken.

Let us know if the issue persists.
