The job failed with the following error: A hardware error occurred.

Hi!

I have trouble at a customer running BE v10.0 rev5520 on a Windows Server 2003 SP1.

This error started last week. We have ofcourse tried to reboot the server.

When we do SMALL backup jobs (like 500 mb) no error is reported. But when we do larger backup jobs on the server we now start to get these error messages after backup is done:

"The job failed with the following error: A hardware error occurred."

in the error log of backup exec:

Storage device "BNCHMARK 1" reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
V-79-57344-33992 - The backup storage device has failed."

We have restarted the server.
Checked the termination of the scsi bus (okey).

Is 100% sure it's the backup station itself.. Brand HP. that is damaged ?

Is the device attached to a RAID or embedded SCSI controller? That is not a supported configuration! If not, try updating BE drivers!

It's installed on a embedded SCSI Controller of the server (HP Proliant ML 350 server). It's the ONLY device on that bus.

This solution have worked since june this year so I see no reason why it should not work now.
I presume hardware error in the HP Device backupstation...

Well, Symantec does not recommend that config. And as you now experience, it's unstable! It's recommended to use a stand alone SCSI adapter. Even though a faulty device or bad driver could be the reson, based on the error message, it's more likely the hardware config in this case.
