Turn off Pre-processing??

How do I turn-off/disable pre-processing?  What does that actually do and is it needed? Using BE 12.5

You cannot turn off pre-processing, its part of the backup process.

EDIT: You can disable the backup scan but not the pre-processing.

Backup scan indicates the percentage of backup completed.

You cannot disable it & it does the following thing as per admin guide page no 564

This status can indicate any or all of the following:
■ Backup Exec is calculating the amount of data that will
be backed up, if the Display progress indicators for
backup jobs option is enabled in Preferences.
See “Changing application settings for Backup Exec
preferences” on page 196.
■ Backup Exec is waiting for a pre- or post-command to
complete.
■ Backup Exec is retrieving the set maps and is positioning
the tape to the append point location for an append job.

Pkh actually actually when I was editing my previous comment connection of forum was down so that actually remain unsaved seems to be some issues with forum last few hours not able to connect so finally had to open same thread in new tab & made comment.

I'd like to turn it off because it takes time to run the pre-process and I don't really care if it shows me in the status bar how much % has been completed.  I'd rather have symantec jump right in and start backing up and not count how many bytes it will have to backup.

I think you are facing issue with job scan & not preprocessing

for same please verify the same

Go into Tools\Options\Preferences and turn off "Display progress indicators for backup jobs. This requires additional time to pre-scan devices."

& as said we cannot disable the preprocessig as it is by architecture & is used for reason mention above
